The Zika virus which was first noticed in Brazil has indeed proved to be the latest epidemic to threaten world health. The virus, whose effect threatens pregnant mothers the most, has broken boundaries from Brazil and is now reported to be in America.
Caused by the mosquito, the Zika virus was first thought to threaten countries across continents where the mosquito can be found.
However, recent discovery in the United States of America has revealed the first non-mosquito infection of the virus. According to reports, a rare case of the virus transmitted through sex has been identified in a patient in Dallas, Texas as confirmed by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
While the patient was not known to have travelled outside the US to any of the infected areas, the patient's partner was reported to have recently returned from Venezuela.
The World Health Organisation has declared the virus a global health emergency.
In a related event, two residents of Sydney, Australia, who recently returned from the Caribbean have been confirmed to have caught the virus.
