A Nigerian girl who was trafficked to the West African country of Burkina Faso has been found dead barely a month after an investigative report exposed the awful conditions she and other Nigerian girls are subjected to in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso.
A news correspondent, Ateba, travelled to Ouagadougou in early January to unravel the booming human trafficking business in the landlocked country.
What he discovered was a sophisticated human trafficking ring that takes girls from Nigeria with false promises of making their lives better in Europe via Burkina Faso.
The victim, known as Gift, was sold the same promises but ended up working as a sex slave in ‘Bar Dancing Petit Ouaga’, a brothel in Toudoubweogo village in Ouagadougou.
Our correspondent met her on 12 January this year during his investigation but she was found dead mid February.
Gift who hails from Edo state in Nigeria, narrated how she had travelled with someone for three days to get to Burkina Faso in April 2014.
But, instead of going straight to Ouagadougou, she travelled to Dori where gold is being mined manually. Dori is about 271 kilometres from Ouagadougou.
She claimed she was 18 years old but she appeared younger than that. Most girls who are trafficked are taught to say they are 18 years and above.
During the conversation with our correspondent, Gift expressed hope that once she has paid the traffickers some money, she would be free to move on with her life.
But she died a week ago, two activists said, as many other trafficked Nigerian girls who have died there far away from their family members, and not close to their dream lives.

Michael Schumacher sells Norwegian mountain holiday home for £2million as he continues to recover from his horrific ski injuries

Michael Schumacher has sold his Norwegian mountain holiday home for £2million as he continues to recover from his horrific ski injuries.
The sale of the retreat, in Trysil, north of Oslo, comes after it was revealed last year that his family was planning to build a £10million 'hospital' room for the Formula One star at their home in Switzerland.
The 46-year-old had owned the 6,940 sq ft lodge since the 1990s and used it as a base for family skiing trips.

General Buhari’s Speech at London Chatham House – Nigeria’s Transition

Read the speech below...
Permit me to start by thanking Chatham House for the invitation to talk about this important topic at this crucial time. When speaking about Nigeria overseas, I normally prefer to be my country’s public relations and marketing officer, extolling her virtues and hoping to attract investments and tourists. But as we all know, Nigeria is now battling with many challenges, and if I refer to them, I do so only to impress on our friends in the United Kingdom that we are quite aware of our shortcomings and are doing our best to address them.
The truth is: 80 percent of women do not shower everyday, some only shower once a week

  • It seems having a shower is not quite as common as we thought
  • A new survey shows a third of women go for three days without washing
  • In light of this, FEMAIL talks to five women about their bathroom habits
Having a shower is a necessary chore and a simple pleasure. But it seems it is not quite as common as we might have thought.
A survey this week found an astonishing four out of five women don’t shower every day. A third even admit they go for up to three days without washing, with tiredness and lack of time cited as the reasons.
Here, five women with very different habits reveal how often they shower.

ONCE A WEEK
Michelle McCann, 36, a social media consultant from Brighton, is married to Gary, 40, a data analyst. They have two children, Isobel, five, and Luke, seven months. Michelle has just one shower a week because she says she’s too busy with motherhood to have one more often.
Every morning after I’ve buttered Isobel’s toast, prepared her packed lunch and settled Luke on his playmat, I rush off to get myself ready.
I pass one of my son’s wet flannels under each armpit before giving my arms, hands, face and intimate area a cursory once over. Then I’m ready for the school run.

As a busy mum, I never seem to have the time to shower, so I use microfibre baby flannels every day instead. They’re just as efficient as showering and I can also remove my make-up, all in a fraction of the time. You wash them after each use and they come in packs of 30.
It may sound grim, but I can assure you I don’t smell, as my husband — who has a shower every other morning — will attest.
People are too fussy about showering frequently. When I was a child, I was given only one bath a week.
Epic moment at UK Brit Award 2015- The Material girl takes a plunge- Madonna
brits

Madonna was pulled off the stage backwards live on Wednesday night's BRIT Awards 2015. With the final, much-anticipated performance of the night with I'm Going To Carry On, Madonna failed to untie her cape in time for her dancer's to rip it away. The 56-year-old looked shocked after she fell backwards down a set of stairs but picked herself back up and continued to the end. Ironic lines including 'pick me up' and 'I'm gonna carry on' featured in the singer's performance as she battled to the end in her elaborate matador costume. Karlie Kloss was seen turning to best friend Taylor Swift with a mortified look as audience members watched the stage veteran complete her performance. Earlier, Swift opened the show at London's O2 Arena strutting onto the stage as she performed her single Blank Space to great fanfare, putting on a jaw-dropping and sexy show.

Exceptional cold weather forces forces Americans to move around in snow tunnels !
Some New England residents are using their shovels to dig tunnels instead of dig out their cars and homes

A Canadian couple got nearly two stories of snow in their backyard, so they only way to get to their cars was to dig.
Marcel Landry of Prince Edward Island was out digging for nearly seven hours before completing a snow tunnel that reached his car.
The tunnel Landry created was 25-feet long and six-feet high in some places, the Journal Pioneer reported.
He originally started with a smaller tunnel, but realized it could collapse on him.
In order to determine which direction to dig, he used the emergency button on his keys to make his car horn go off.

NIGERIA ELECTIONS :INEC, security chiefs fine-tune plan for elections

Prof. Attahiru Jega
Representatives of the nation’s security agencies on Monday met with the Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Attahiru Jega, over preparations for the rescheduled general elections.
The PUNCH gathered that the meeting specifically assessed the security situations in the North-East in view of recent successes recorded by the military against the insurgents.
It was learnt that the meeting, which came under the aegis of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, emphasised the need for a strong military presence, particularly in the North-East, during the elections.
The military had recently said that it had librated many communities, in the North-East, including Baga and Mubi, from Boko Haram.
The PUNCH gathered from a senior security official at the meeting that “security agencies argued in favour of deployment of the military for the elections.”
The official added, “They said the recent threat by   Boko Haram leader, Abubakar   Shekau, should not be taken lightly.
“Besides, there have been suicide bombings in Yobe and only the presence of soldiers can allay fears of voters. Even residents of Maiduguri, Borno State, have been applauding the latest development. How do you tell soldiers to leave during elections.”
The legality of deploying soldiers for the elections has pitted the All Progressives Congress against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, had on Thursday said President Goodluck Jonathan would deploy soldiers during the elections, but the APC insisted that two courts had barred the military from being part of the exercise.
Investigations by The PUNCH showed that the meeting which held at the INEC office looked into ways the government could assist displaced persons to return to their towns so that they could be a part of the elections.
When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman,   Kayode Idowu, declined to give details of the meeting which he described as operational.
He said, “The agenda was routine technical evaluation and planning for elections.
“The meeting of the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security is a routine operational platform that deliberates on technical (not policy) aspects of security provisioning for elections. It was not personally attended by the National Security Adviser (Sambo Dasuki), though his office co-chairs the committee with the INEC Chairman.”
The Defence Headquarters, Army, Air Force, Department of State Services as well as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are represented in the committee. They also sent representatives to the meeting.
INEC had on February 7, shifted the general elections from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11.
Its chairman said the postponement followed reports by   Dasuki     and the service chiefs that their agencies would   not be able to guarantee security of INEC personnel in some parts of the country.
Meanwhile, immediate-past National Youth Service Corps members will still be engaged for election duties.
Idowu said despite not being under the NYSC any longer,     INEC remained disposed to engaging them owing to the election training they underwent.
He said the NYSC had earlier “kept these people in camps because of the elections. But now that there is a shift, there is no basis for you to keep on holding them in camps.
“Yes, they kept them in camp for INEC because of the elections and when elections are rescheduled, you can’t hold them in camps for six week.
“The   corps members themselves, as many as have been trained and are available to take up the job for which they have been trained, they would still be there. Those that were trained and have passed out, as many as they are there, they would still be engaged. They have been trained for the job.”
Asked of the implication of engaging the discharged corps members since they are no longer under the scheme, he said, “They are the same people who were recently in the NYSC. The only difference is that because of the time of the rescheduling, they are no longer in the camps of the NYSC.”
Europe's biggest solar eclipse since 1999 is on its way - and 84 per cent of sunlight could be blocked out over London
The solar eclipse is set to block out nearly 90 per cent of sunlight across parts of Europe next month. On the morning of the 20 March the moon's orbit will see it travel in front of the sun casting a shadow over Earth - and the eclipse will be the biggest event of its kind since 11 August 1999 (pictured over Germany)

A solar eclipse is set to block out nearly 90 per cent of sunlight across parts of Europe next month - and it will be the biggest event of its kind in 16 years.
On 20 March, the moon's orbit will see it travel in front of the sun, casting a shadow over Earth.
The eclipse will see up to 84 per cent of the sun covered in London - and around 94 per cent in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
Meanwhile, electricity system operators have warned the eclipse poses a serious risk of blackouts all over Europe as the continent increasingly relies on solar power.

The path of totality for next month's eclipse will travel from just beneath the Greenland peninsula, heading north into the Arctic Circle. The left-hand animation shows the totality of the 1999 eclipse. The right-hand animation shows how the shadow created by the eclipse on 20 March will travel over Europe

Until the bag was broken, Silas was still getting oxygen through the placenta. Doctors who delivered say the moment 'caught out breath'

His hands and feet were clearly visible - but baby Silas Philips was in no rush to enter the world.
Born still inside his amniotic sac, he has since been described as a 'medical miracle' by doctors.
Silas was delivered three months prematurely at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California.
And doctors performing the Caesarean section on his mother, Chelsea, were astonished to see he his amniotic sac was still intact.
Pictures show Silas curled up inside with the placenta and umbilical cord, his tiny hands and a leg clearly visible.

And until the bag was broken, he was still getting oxygen through the placenta, CBS reported.
The amniotic sac is a bag of clear, pale fluid inside the womb where the unborn baby develops and grows.
The fluid helps to cushion the baby from bumps and injury, as well as providing it with fluids it can breathe and swallow. It also maintains a constant temperature for the baby.
It was a moment that mesmerised Dr William Binder, who delivered Silas.
'Even though it sounds cliched, we caught our breath,' he said. 'It really felt like a moment of awe... and one that will stick in my moment for some time.
