Buhari's potential economic team

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo_Eweala (Former Minister, Finance)

The issue that has almost knocked the Boko Haram insurgency and the ever-unfolding saga of public office holders in corruption tango has the ailing Nigerian economy. The domestic economy, it would appear, has got the citizenry quietly agitated as they hope that the poor state of things would change. This has led many a forum and summit undertake a review of the situation as its theme but this has not been sufficiently matched by the great expectation of government's action - at least to the citizenry.

Nigerians across board have begun to wonder where the Nigerian economy is heading to as it has under-performed for the past few months.
Economic pundits and analyst have longed advocated diverse measures and palliatives but it seems that the government of the day is hell bent at having its way.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government has over the last few months brought untold hardship to many Nigerians as the nation is practically wallowing in poverty, inflation, fuel scarcity, high electricity tariff, outrageous taxes, and unemployment.

Recall that during the 2015 presidential election, the All Progressives Congress, APC, was voted on the platform of “Change”, as the party promised to transform the economy by creating jobs, building infrastructures, providing social interventions, amongst other promises but so far, all does not seem to be well with the economy.
Amidst had choices, the former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, Erstwhile Minister of Finance, Okonjo Iweala, and former CBN Governor, Charles Soludu have been nominated to make Buhari’s Economic team.
Speaking to News men the  APGA Deputy National Secretary, Jerry Obasi said:
“The economy to me, has been destroyed, you cannot bring a clerk in a micro finance bank in the UK to come and superintend over Nigeria’s economy, it is not going to take us anywhere. Nigeria needs an economist, the likes of Okonjo Iweala, an economist in the stature of Oby Ezekwesili, in the stature of Soludo, in the stature of Kaku Idika Kaku. These appointments of Buhari that are more political and sentimentally minded will take us to the abyss. The government is already collapsing on him, and I will advise once again for him to convoke an economic summit, because Nigerian and her economy is in comatose, it is in an intensive care unit of economic hospital that also needs intensive care by economic surgeons, but if we go the way we are going, I see dark days ahead, I see terrible days ahead.”
Oby Ezekwesili (Former Minister of Education)
“The president should wake up, he should reduce his level of travelling, you don’t visit economies that are stable whereas at home, the economy is dying on your lapse, let us come out of these sentiments, the APC should understand now that it is the ruling government, may be they forgot that they are ruling, still sounding like the opposition. Buhari’s appointments are summersault appointments; you see a professor working under a first degree holder, let us look inside, management of the country is different from a religious body, it is different from a tribal organization, it is different from the opposition mentality, it is so far so bad, all of us can see it, we can’t buy food. The country has become too hot for all of us.”
