Buhari 'pushed' for a cabinet reshuffle

Geoffrey Onyeama

Nigerians have waited to see more of the change or changes to be executed by the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. While the nation waited until about three months ago for the inauguration of the ministerial cabinet, the expectation of radical reforms grew while the people enthused in the change slogan in support of the administration.

Apparently, the weight of expectation has also grown on the president who is reported to be under pressure from chieftains of the All Progressives Congress to re-organise his cabinet.
Post Nigeria reprots that as part of the close-at-hand reshuffle, the following ministers have not been seen to puling their weight to the required expectation and are being recommended for re-deployment.

The Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, is said to have failed to have managed President Buhari's domestic and international perception and these have been traced to a lack of foreign policy agenda. Since the inception of the administration, a defined foreign policy agenda is yet to be mooted.

Aisha Alhassan

Aisha Alhassan, the Hon. Minister for Women Affairs has been faulted, aside from not pursuing a clearer programme policy, has bewen found to have made slips saying that the Chibok girls were not abducted during the tenure of this administration and being 'silent' in the celebrated case of the girl-child abduction of Ese Oruru who was 'forced' to marry a man from Kano.

Mr. Kayode Fayemi

Mr. Kayode Fayemi, ex-Governor of Ekiti State and Minister for Solid Mineral ministry has been rather quiet. He was reported to have said he needed time to learn in the ministry to come to effective grips with the job expectation.

Mr Lai Mohammed as Minister for Information has been criticised severally for speaking on almost all fronts and subject areas while not being adequately informed on the issues he makes comments over. His impact would have been better reflected in the issues of the current administration as it is considered that his continuous blame game with the past administration has not helped the perception of the new administration

Mr. Adebayo Shittu, Hon . Minister of Communications, was reportedly unseen over the issues of the MTN saga of payment of N50 billion naira and the Nigeria Communications Commission which his ministry superintends.

But would they be the only ones guilty of these type of circumstances? Or are the APC chieftains and others clamouring for a cabinet re-shuffle doing so in all sincerity and in the interest of Nigeria? Time will tell.
