Lagos to have CCTVs

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State

In what appears to be compliance with Lagos as a cosmopolitan city comparable with most in the developed countries the Lagos state government of Nigeria is planning to enhance and beef up adequacy of security in the state given the tumultuous attraction of Nigerians and tourists which the state attracts as the economic hub and social nerve centre of the country from independence.

The state government has announced the deployment of the 13,000 Closed Circuit Television( CCTV) cameras to tackle incessant crime in the state.
The state' commissioner of science and technology, Mr. Olufemi Odubiyi ,who announced this yesterday at a press conference, said the distribution of the camera across the state would commence next month.
"The deployment of the camera will start by the last quarter of this year from September.
"We have a window of about 16 to 18 months to fully ensure that the cameras cut across the state."
It is however yet unclear who will be responsible for monitoring the cameras and if there is a solution being considered for the power supply to them.
