Bukola Saraki, Senate President |
President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded a fresh list of 46 non-career Ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation as Ambassadors.
The nominees include a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, George Oguntade (Lagos); Yusuf Tugga (Bauchi); a former deputy governor of Plateau State, Mrs. Paulen Tallen (Plateau); a former members of the House Representatives, Hon. Usman Bugaje (Katsina); the immediate past deputy governor of Niger State, Ahmed Ibeto (Niger); and 41 others.
Recall that the Senate had earlier confirmed a list of 47 career Ambassadors some time in July this year.
Meanwhile, immediately after the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, finished reading the President’s letter containing the nominees, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the Senate, Philip Aduda, immediately raised a Point Order to protest the non-inclusion of any FCT indigene in the list of nominees.
Saraki upheld Aduda’s Point of Order and referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
