The death has been reported of one of Nigeria's elder statesmen, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite. He died yesterday morning at the famous St. Nicholas Hospital in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria aged 82 years.
He rates as one those in the legal profession who forayed into politics despite his success in the practice of Law. He was the party leader of the National Advance Party (NAP) during the 1980s - the period of Nigeria second republic.
Even though he lost election as a presidential flag-bearer of his party, he remained a silent but effective and active interventionist in the Nigerian political scene. As he aged, he was known to contribute write-ups in national dailies to express his opinions about topical national issues.
His presence and vibrant politically tinged legal mind would be missed in the Nigerian state.
